About the Artist

For Jacqueline Borthwick, art has been an enduring passion throughout her life. Even while working full-time as a mother and licensed clinical psychologist, she has always carved out time to practice and develop her skills as an oil painter. Building upon hours of drawing and painting horses, dogs, and cats as a child, Jacqueline’s life-long love of animals has added to her fifty-year growth as an artist.
“When painting pet portraits, it is very important to me to capture the pet’s personality. It is not just a painting of an animal; it is someone’s companion and friend. A true family member.” - Jacqueline Borthwick
While pet portraits and studio painting constitute the bulk of her work, she also enjoys plein air painting and the challenge of capturing the unique interplay of light, color, and nature. With a doctorate in clinical psychology, Jacqueline’s technical education as a painter has been largely self-directed. This includes extensive studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and Mission Renaissance in Los Angeles. She has participated in several intensive art workshops in Europe as well as various United States locations. She adamantly believes in continued education and development as an artist.
Jacqueline resides in Southeastern Wisconsin and is currently a member of American Women Artists, Wisconsin Visual Artists, Oil Painters of America, and Pewaukee Art League. She is the mother of two adult children and grandmother to six. She currently enjoys spending her limited free time hiking, paddleboarding, boxing and spending time with family including her furry companion Mia!
